Ford tells Houston he's heading to NBA

HOUSTON -- University of Houston forward Alton Ford has closed the door on any possible return to school for his sophomore year.
Ford, coming off a strong pre-draft camp in Chicago, said Tuesday he would pass up his final three years of eligibility at Houston and remain in next week's NBA draft.
"I feel I have a great chance for a team to pick me in the first or second round," Ford told Houston television station KRIV. "This is my dream and I'm going to stick with it. It's my life."
Ford said Dallas, New Jersey, Sacramento and the Grizzlies have all expressed interest in bringing him in for workouts.
The 6-foot-9, 275-pound forward averaged 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds last season when the Cougars went 9-20.
Ford's teammates think he's ready for the NBA.
"He's going to be very successful," Houston forward George Williams said. "Even though he's young and didn't have as good a year as everyone expected, he's 6-9, 275, strong and athletic. It's a no-brainer."
Houston head coach Ray McCallum declined to comment.
The draft will be held June 27 and underclassmen wishing to maintain their college eligibility must remove their name by Wednesday.
