Clemson's Solomon staying in draft

Clemson junior Will Solomon will remain in the draft instead of return to the Tigers for his senior season, coach Larry Shyatt told ESPN.com on Tuesday.

The deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft is Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET. The 6-foot-1 Solomon led the Tigers in scoring the past two season, averaging 20.9 last year and 19.7 as a sophomore. He was a combo guard for the Tigers, primarily playing the wing. But he had to prove he could play the point at the Chicago pre-draft camp.

He held his own but was a combined 7-for-23 shooting from the field, making only 2-of-4 3-pointers with 17 assists and eight turnovers. Solomon made his decision to stay in the draft even though he is projected no better than mid-to-late second round.

"I'm very supportive of his decision because he has put a lot of time into it and made a mature decision," Shyatt said.

Shyatt said all season that he expected Solomon to bolt after this season. The Tigers signed Chey Christie as a potential replacement in the backcourt last November.

Solomon's decision means five more college players need to make an official announcement before the deadline. Austin Peay's Trenton Hassell, Houston's Alton Ford, DePaul's Bobby Simmons, UC Irvine's Jerry Green and North Carolina State's Damien Wilkins haven't made their plans known.

F.C. Barcelona's Pau Gasol and Real Madrid's Raul Lopez also have to make up their minds about whether to stay in the draft.
