Hornets close Bucks' lead to three games

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The scouting report may be out on Eddie Robinson, but teammate David Wesley says that doesn't mean you can stop him.

Referee Dick Bavetta delivers a second-quarter warning to the Bucks' Sam Cassell.
"He's an athlete," Wesley said after Robinson scored 20 points, six on alley-oop dunks in the second half, as the Charlotte Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 100-90 Saturday night. "When you throw it up there, no one is going up there to get him. If he just realized how good he is, wow. He just doesn't know."

Bucks coach George Karl knows.

"The name of the game tonight was rebounding and Eddie Robinson," Karl said. "Robinson killed us with his alley-oop dunks."

Robinson missed his career high by one point as the Hornets outrebounded Milwaukee 59-36 and moved within three games of the Central Division-leading Bucks.

"I think I was running the floor very well tonight and they were losing sight of me," Robinson said. "My teammates were looking for me on the break a lot."

Jamal Mashburn returned after missing a game with a bruised sternum to score 15 points and grab 12 rebounds. The Hornets won for the 11th time in 13 games, taking the season series with Milwaukee 3-1.

"I think its too early to start looking at the Central Division," Karl said. "But I think if we put up 50 wins it will be tough for them to catch us."

Mashburn said the Hornets are only concerned with themselves.

"I don't think anybody is in front of the TV hoping Milwaukee loses," Mashburn said. "It doesn't matter if we don't take care of our business."

Elden Campbell had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, and P.J. Brown added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Ray Allen led Milwaukee with 32 points but scored only eight points in the second half as the Bucks' three-game winning streak came to an end.

Glenn Robinson added 21 points, but the Bucks shot just 40 percent and got just seven points from Sam Cassell.

"I can't go 2-for-14 and expect this team to be successful," Cassell said.

Eddie Robinson converted an alley-oop pass from Baron Davis with 42 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Hornets a 74-68 lead.

He dunked a feed from Wesley early in the fourth period, and the duo hooked up again 24 seconds later to make it 80-71 with 10:19 left.

The Bucks got no closer than five points the rest of the way, and Wesley's 3-pointer with 1:58 left gave Charlotte an 11-point lead.

Neither team led by more than six points through the first three quarters. The Bucks led 23-21 after the first quarter, thanks to 11 points from Allen. His fourth 3-pointer with 17 seconds left in the second quarter helped the Bucks take a 47-46 lead into halftime.

Allen had 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting at the break, but he scored just four points in the third quarter.

Game notes
Hornets reserve guard Eldridge Recasner missed his second straight game with back spasms.... The Bucks were in Charlotte since early Thursday, but coach George Karl flew to Milwaukee Friday to watch his son Coby play in a high school basketball playoff game. He returned Saturday morning.
