GAME FLOW
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- As bad as the Miami Heat were for three
quarters, the Orlando Magic were even worse in the fourth.
| | A.C. Green chipped in 12 points and six rebounds for the Heat. |
Brian Grant had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Miami outscored Orlando 29-9 in the fourth quarter to win 81-59 Saturday.
"We were horrendous," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We missed a
lot of good shots in the first half, then we tried to force some
situations, had some turnovers. But the game never got away from
us."
Orlando's John Amaechi started the fourth quarter with a basket
that tied the game at 52. But the Magic would make only two more
field goals the rest of the game.
The Heat, who shot 30.9 percent through three quarters, made 11
of 21 field goals in the fourth to win for the sixth time in seven
games.
"As bad as we shot the ball, we had a chance to win it and we
just exploded in the fourth quarter," Riley said.
Orlando shot 3-of-16 in the fourth quarter, including going
0-for-5 on 3-pointers.
Eddie Jones added 15 points for the Heat, A.C. Green had 12 and Tim Hardaway 11. Anthony Mason had nine points and 13 rebounds.
"It's always important to have maturity out there, people who
have been in the situation because you don't have to control them
like a robot," Mason said. "They can act off of instinct and make
smart decisions based on past experiences."
Hardaway was 0-for-4 through three quarters and didn't hit his
first field goal of the game until his 3-pointer with 5:45 left
gave the Heat a 66-54 lead.
Tracy McGrady led Orlando with 19 points and 15 rebounds but he
was 7-of-27 from the field. He was the only Magic player to reach
double figures as Orlando recorded a season-low in points.
"We were just taking a beating in the second half," McGrady
said. "They kept beating on us until we, I think, kind of gave up.
We stopped fighting in the second half.
"I think in the second half, we went back to playing their
pace. It was playing Miami Heat basketball instead of Orlando Magic
basketball."
Miami outscored Orlando 17-12 in the third quarter, making 5 of
17 shots. The Magic were 5-of-20 from the floor.
Orlando built its lead to 35-26 on a layup by Armstrong but
Miami outscored the Magic 9-3 in the final 3:35 of the second
quarter to make it 38-35 at the half.
"This was a disappointing game because it was very winnable,"
Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "I am not happy with them at all. We
are young and we are going to get better. If I had one concern with
this team, it is their age."
Game notes There were 11 lead changes and 12 ties. ... McGrady tied a
career high for rebounds. ... The Magic, who shot 28.8 percent for
the game, have lost two straight after winning five of six.
