SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Antoine Walker scored 47 points
Wednesday night, but the game's most important points belonged to
Peja Stojakovic.
Stojakovic made a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, then
scored the final six points for the Sacramento Kings, who in the
closing minutes defeated the Boston Celtics 111-106.
Chris Webber had 30 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots
for the Kings, who won their third straight game and defeated
Boston for a fifth straight time at Arco Arena.
But the Kings' biggest contributor down the stretch was
Stojakovic, who made three 3-pointers and finished with 26 points.
"Our go-to guy is Chris, but I try to be that guy when we need
it," said Stojakovic, who had 11 fourth-quarter points. "I have
confidence when I have the ball in those situations."
Stojakovic's final 3-pointer ignited a 12-2 run and cut Boston's
lead to 99-96 with 4:53 remaining. In the final 1:33, he made a
driving baseline shot, a long jumper and two free throws with 2.1
seconds to seal the victory.
"I think Peja is one reason you never say we're out of it, he
has such range," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "Even when he has
a bad game, I keep waiting for him to make the next shot."
Walker, who made nine 3-pointers and was two points shy of his
career high, missed a long 3-pointer with four seconds left and the
Celtics trailing by three points.
Walker, who had his seventh career triple-double in his previous
game, made 16 of 29 shots, converted nine of 14 from 3-point range and
also had 13 assists, five rebounds and four steals.
"He had a huge game, it's the best I've seen him play," said
Paul Pierce, who scored 18 points. "He shot and passed the
basketball and it was good to see him and Webber go at it."
The two teams each had 12 3-point field goals, breaking the old
Arco Arena record of 23.
Jason Williams made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points and had
eight assists for the Kings; Vlade Divac had 12 points and seven
rebounds, while Jon Barry added 13 points.
Trailing by six points, the Kings went on a 12-2 run to take a
105-101 lead with 1:55 remaining. Hedo Turkoglu tied the game with
a 3-pointer from the corner, Divac made a driving layup and
Williams made a baseline jumper, putting the Kings ahead by four
points.
"They missed some shots and Peja and Hedo hit some big shots to
win the game," Divac said. "We moved and executed in the last two
or three minutes and Peja and Hedo hit the shots."
Bryant Stith had 17 for the Celtics, who are 2-3 under interim
coach Jim O'Brien. The Celtics made 41 of 81 (50.6 percent) shots
and became the first team to shoot 50 percent or better against the
Kings this season.
Walker scored 17 points in the third period as the Celtics
outscored Sacramento 32-25 and used a basket with one second left
by Stith to take an 85-83 lead into the final period.
"They were doubling Paul all night and I was able to get open
looks," Walker said. "I've been struggling from the 3-point line
the last five games and this is a good come-out game to get back on
track."
Game notes
Walker had 14 of Boston's 16 points in the second quarter.
... The Kings made seven of 12 3-point attempts in the first period,
tying an arena record, but missed their only two attempts in the
second. ... Kings starting guard Doug Christie was called away just
before game time after his pregnant wife went into an area hospital.
... Webber, who sat out much of the third quarter with four fouls,
had 26 points in his first 26 minutes.
