CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Late in the third quarter, a fan yelled
"Make some shots, will you?"
That fan, and everyone else who watched the Charlotte Hornets'
65-56 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, had reason to be
frustrated.

They witnessed 90 missed shots and the second-lowest scoring
game in NBA history.
The Heat set a franchise low with 56 points and 19 field goals.
Only two other NBA teams have been held to fewer points since the
introduction of the shot clock.
"What can I say? It was one of the ugliest games of the year,"
Heat coach Pat Riley said. "The defense was outstanding for both
teams, but it wasn't pretty."
The Hornets' 65 points were a team record for fewest points in a
win, while the combined 121 points was the second-fewest in NBA
history behind the 119 scored in Boston's 62-57 win over Milwaukee
in 1955.
Jamal Mashburn was the lone player to have any offensive
success, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as the Hornets
extended their home winning streak to nine games.
David Wesley was the only other double-figure scorer for the
Hornets with 13 points.
"Nasty is a pretty good way to describe this game," Wesley
said.
Anthony Mason and Brian Grant each had 11 points to lead Miami,
which shot 29 percent for the game. Miami did not crack 30 points
until 5:29 left in the third quarter. It reached 40 points with
8:47 left in the game.
Heat guard Tim Hardaway, who finished with seven points on
2-for-11 shooting, was ejected with 9:12 left in the fourth
quarter. Moments after fouling out, Hardaway picked up a technical
foul, his second of the game.
Hardaway got in the face of referee James Capers before he was
restrained. As he walked off the court, Hardaway picked up two
towels and a heat pack in front of the Charlotte bench and tossed
them onto the floor.
Riley said he thought Hardaway was upset over the physical play.
"He got smacked in the face and got a bloody mouth," Riley
said. "He took three or four shots in a row, and his fifth foul
was on a moving screen where he took an elbow."
The Hornets dominated the inside in a 10-2 run to start the
second quarter and take a 13-point lead. Charlotte never trailed
again but never had a lead larger than 15.
"Well, it certainly wasn't a pretty win," Hornets coach Paul
Silas said. "I'm happy we won. If it had gone the other way, I
don't know what I would have done."
The game was the third between the teams since a nine-player
trade last summer that sent Mashburn and P.J. Brown to Charlotte
for Eddie Jones and Anthony Mason.
Jones struggled shooting for the second straight game in
Charlotte, making just three of 16 shots and finishing with seven
points.
"I need to come to practice an hour early, stay an hour late,"
Jones said. "I need to get my game together."
Game notes
Hornets reserve swingman Eddie Robinson missed the game
with a bruised hip, while rookie forward Jamaal Magloire returned
after missing three games with a bone chip in his left foot. ...
The Hornets have only 11 players on their roster after waiving
Terrance Roberson on Tuesday. ... Forward Derrick Coleman is not
expected to be activated until next week. ... After playing three
times in the first two months of the season, Charlotte and Miami
don't meet again until April 6.
