ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Reserve Bryon Russell scored eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Utah Jazz defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 92-76 Thursday night in the final exhibition game for both teams.

Karl Malone added 17 points and Pete Chilcutt had 14, including 11 in the fourth quarter, for Utah (5-3).

Shaquille O'Neal had 27 of his 31 points in the first three quarters, but Los Angeles (3-5) lost its third consecutive game. Derek Fisher was the only other Lakers player in double figures, with 14 points.

Los Angeles forward Glen Rice missed all 10 of his shots and was scoreless in 36 minutes of play. Robert Horry, the Lakers' other starting forward, was also held scoreless. Reserve forward A.C. Green had two points in 19 minutes before fouling out in the third quarter.

O'Neal's 12 points in the first quarter gave the Lakers a 23-22 lead. But Utah's 12-3 run to close the first half gave it the lead for good. Russell hit 3-pointers to begin and end the spurt and added another basket to give the Jazz a 44-37 halftime lead.

The teams will face each other in the regular-season opener Tuesday night in Salt Lake City, a day before the Lakers play Vancouver in their first game in the new Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
