LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Shaquille O'Neal scored 14 of his 22 points in the first eight minutes Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers took command early in rolling to a 119-96 victory over the Golden State Warriors. The win was the fourth straight and 23rd in 24 games for the Lakers, whose 57-12 record is the NBA's best. The Warriors have lost three in a row and 13 of their last 15. O'Neal left the game for good with 39 seconds left in the third quarter and the Lakers leading 95-70. Adonal Foyle and Bill Curley tried to guard O'Neal without success, and Foyle picked up his fifth foul early in the third period. Kobe Bryant added 18 points and Glen Rice had 17 for the Lakers. Rice also sat out the fourth quarter. Golden State's Larry Hughes, who had a career-high 41 points in a 109-91 loss to the Lakers two weeks ago, was held to two in the first quarter of this game by Bryant, but wound up scoring 26. Jason Caffey had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Warriors. The Lakers, who never trailed, made 14 of 24 shots in taking a 37-19 first-quarter lead. O'Neal and Bryant each had 14 points in the period, combining to make 11-of-18 shots. The Lakers led by as many as 31 points in the second quarter before settling for a 65-45 halftime lead. O'Neal, who watched the entire second period from the bench, scored six points in the first 4:10 of the third quarter to spark a 17-3 run, putting the Lakers ahead 82-48. The Warriors scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter _ eight by Vonteego Cummings _ to make it 96-85 with 7:28 left, but that was as close as they would get. Notes: The Lakers lead Portland, which has the NBA's second-best record, by six games. ... The Lakers have won 11 straight games at Staples Center. They haven't lost at home since Jan. 22, when they were beaten by the Trail Blazers 95-91. ... O'Neal, who had just four rebounds in 23 minutes, failed to reach double figures in both scoring and rebounding for only the 12th time in 68 games. ... Backup Lakers center Travis Knight had a season-high 10 rebounds before fouling out with 4:26 left. ... The Lakers, who lead the NBA in rebounding and opponents' field goal percentage, have allowed only 14 of their 69 opponents to score 100 or more points. ... The Warriors signed Mark Davis, who fills the roster spot created when the NBA gave the team an injury exemption. Center Erick Dampier, out with a sprained right wrist, will undergo a diagnostic arthroscopic procedure Friday. ... Golden State's Billy Owens didn't play because of inflammation in his right knee.
