Harlem wins in seventh on wild pitch

Associated Press

BRISTOL, Conn. -- Julian McWilliams scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Harlem, N.Y., to a 5-4 victory over Bethlehem, Pa., Tuesday night in the Little League Mid-Atlantic Regional final.

Harlem advanced to the Little League World Series which begins Friday.

With the bases loaded in the first extra inning, Joey Orlando threw the wild pitch. McWilliams slid in, beating Orlando's tag at the plate.

''I was thinking, I have to score this run to get my team the win,'' McWilliams said.

Harlem rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the fourth.

Alibay Barkley homered to make it 4-2. Andrew and Joshua Diaz scored with two outs on an error by Pennsylvania center fielder Ben Eichman.

''If we played another 20 games, I don't think we would drop any balls in the outfield,'' Bethlehem manager Sam Murray said.

Harlem is the first team from Little League's Urban Initiative to reach the World Series. In celebration, the team planned to stay up all night.

''The first one that goes to sleep gets their face painted with toothpaste,'' Fernando Frias said.
