The Mets, fighting for the NL wild card, also sent right-hander Josh Reynolds and outfielder Jay Bay to San Diego for another right-handed reliever, Jason Middlebrook.

Jones rejoins right-hander Bobby J. Jones, his former Mets teammate. Bay will report to Double-A Mobile and Reynolds will report to Class A Lake Elsinore.

Bobby M. Jones went 0-0 with a 5.29 ERA for the Mets in 12 relief appearances this year and also went 1-4 with a 4.02 ERA for Triple-A Norfolk. The 30-year-old has a 14-20 career record with a 5.75 ERA in 92 games.

Reed, 36 went 2-4 with a 1.98 ERA in relief appearances for San Diego this season.

Middlebrook was 1-3 with 5.09 ERA in 12 games for the Padres and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 1 with a strained groin. He had a 10.80 ERA in three rehab appearances with Triple-A Portland.

Bay is a career .299 minor league hitter with 29 home runs and 156 RBI. Bay, 23, hit .277 with 13 homers and 73 RBI for Class-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton.

Reynolds was 11-5 with a 3.13 ERA in 24 starts and two relief appearances for St. Lucie. He was a third-round pick of the Mets in the 2000 amateur draft.
