HOUSTON (AP) _ Leadoff hitter Royce Clayton homered twice and drove in five runs, and David Segui hit a three-run homer to lead the Texas Rangers to a 9-3 victory over the Houston Astros.

It was Houston's first loss in three games at its new home, Enron Field.

Clayton hit a three-run homer in the second inning off Octavio Dotel, and after the Astros tied it in the third, Tom Evans had an RBI double and Clayton hit a two-run homer to make it 6-3. Clayton went 3-for-4.

``I've been feeling comfortable, hitting the ball solid,'' Clayton said. ``You always hit the ball in streaks and if this is the start of a good cycle, I'll take it for the start of the season.''

Rangers manager Johnny Oates will take his homers from any position.

``He's got some pop,'' Oates said. ``That's something we haven't had at that spot since I've been here. He's got the most pop of anyone we've had.''

Segui got his fourth homer of the spring in the seventh inning off Jose Cabrera.

It was the ninth home run hit in the first three games played at hitter-friendly Enron.

Oates also saw enough in a one-inning appearance by reliever Mike Venafro to make his final roster decision and add the left-hander to the 25-man roster. Venafro was troubled by a ligament pull in the middle finger of his pitching hand.

``It came down to a lot of things, one thing, if I thought I was ready,'' Venafro said. ``I think I can help my team and probably get anybody out. I still have some sharpening up to do, but I'm to the point I think I can get the job done.''

Esteban Loaiza allowed three runs in five innings for the Rangers.

Dotel, obtained from the New York Mets in the offseason, allowed six earned runs in six innings. He walked three.

``The last two innings I pitched today were fine,'' Dotel said. ``I'm happy going into the season now. All the things that have happened are just spring training. I know what's going to happen when the season starts.''

Astros manager Larry Dierker wasn't as pleased.

``He was wild,'' Dierker said. ``He's going to have to have better control. That sort of set the tone today, everyone was wild and that sort of told the story.''
