JUPITER, Fla. (AP) _ Felipe Alou predicted a winning season in Montreal after the Expos wrapped up a winning spring with an 11-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

``I know we will be good, I just don't know how good,'' Alou said. ``But I'll take a chance and say we'll have a winning club. It's the most optimistic I've felt since 1996.''

That was also the last time the Expos had a winning record, 88-74, to finish eight games behind Atlanta in the National League East. Montreal finished the spring 18-11, the best record among NL East teams.

``I'm glad spring training is over,'' Alou said. ``We accomplished everything we wanted to without any major injuries. Now it's a question of bringing it to Montreal.''

The Expos got 13 hits off five Pittsburgh pitchers Saturday after getting 15 hits off six Pirates hurlers in an 8-0 win here Friday night.

Montreal starter Carl Pavano gave up two runs, including a solo homer in the third by second baseman Luis Sojo. First baseman Kevin Young doubled home the other Pittsburgh run in the first inning.

``He pitched very well after that,'' Alou said. ``He might have folded in the past.''

With two runners on, Pavano struck out the last two batters in the first and finished with three strikeouts and five hits without walking anyone. He faced only 13 batters in his last four outings to finish the spring with a 4-1 record in five starts.

The Expos got nine runs and 11 hits in the third, fourth and fifth innings off Pittsburgh starter Francisco Cordova. Pavano singled home a run in the third, Trace Coquillette doubled home one run and scored another in the fourth and Wilton Guerrero singled in two in the fifth.

Chris Stowers, who's already ticketed for Triple-A Ottawa, had a two-run single in the eighth inning.

The Expos open Monday night at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers with Dustin Hermanson starting against Kevin Brown. At the same time, the Pirates play the Houston Astros in Pittsburgh.

Notes: Montreal placed LHP Graeme Lloyd and RHP Tony Armas on the 15-day disabled list and recalled lefty Matt Blank from Double-A Harrisburg. Lloyd had a cortisone injection in his left shoulder Friday and will remain here for rehabilitation. Armas has tendinitis in his right elbow. ... Expos catchers Charlie O'Brien and Bob Hendley were also expected to be put on the disabled list.
