DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) _ Rookie Chris Woodward, trying to make Toronto's opening-day roster, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs Friday as the Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8-1.

Woodward, who also stole a base, is batting .387 this spring.

``It was a nice game for me,'' he said. ```I feel more comfortable this spring after being with Toronto last season.''

Woodward appeared in 14 games for Toronto in 1999, hitting .231 with a double and two RBIs.

Tampa Bay reliever Chad Ogea had a rough time with Woodward in the sixth, throwing 11 pitches to the rookie before he doubled on the 12th pitch.

Ogea gave up four runs and five hits in three innings. Rick White pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, becoming the only Tampa Bay pitcher to retire the side in order.

Winner Roy Halladay made his third start of the spring, allowing one run and six hits in five innings.

``All my pitches were good today,'' he said. ``I am not worried about the strength of this rotation at all.''

Loser Ryan Rupe allowed four runs in four innings but just one was earned.

Tampa Bay made two of its three errors in the first four innings. Toronto stole six bases, all in the first four innings, and has 21 in 23 tries this spring.

Lance Painter, Billy Koch and Peter Munro combined to retire the Devil Rays' final 12 batters.
