RECAP
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ Carl Everett hit his first homer for the Boston Red Sox and Andy Sheets added a two-run double in a 7-1 exhibition win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. Everett, who hit 25 homers for Houston last year before being obtained in an offseason trade, gave Boston a 3-1 lead in the third inning with a two-run homer off loser Jason Ryan. It drove in Trot Nixon, whose RBI double had tied the game 1-1. Everett had been 0-for-3 in exhibition games. The Red Sox made it 4-1 in the fourth, Sheets hit his double in the sixth, and Marty Cordova singled home Darren Lewis in the seventh. It was the fourth hit in the last four at bats for Cordova, who spent the past five seasons with the Twins. Minnesota had been 3-0 in exhibition games, starting with a 9-3 win over Boston last Thursday night. Brian Rose, winner Juan Pena and Jin Ho Cho, all in the running for the fifth spot in Boston's rotation, pitched two strong innings each. Minnesota's only run came in the second off Rose on a leadoff homer by Butch Huskey, who finished last season with the Red Sox. Huskey had two hits for the Twins, while Troy O'Leary, Jose Offerman and Cordova had two each for the Red Sox.
