Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Florida State OLB TOMMY POLLEY since the beginning of the college-football season.
Dec. 31
Still not all the way back from the serious knee injury he sustained last January. But to his credit, Polley was out there every week, competing like a champion. Polley didn't take on blockers like he's capable of and lacked the steady production to really jump out at you on film. In this case, Polley's final grade has to be based in a large degree to his performance in '99 when he paced the FSU defense with 109 tackles. When at full strength, Polley showcases explosive speed and tremendous athleticism.
Dec. 7
You have to give Polley a tremendous amount of credit for the hard work and determination it took to return from the serious knee injury he sustained just last January in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. However, he wasn't the big-play performer this year that would be necessary to guarantee a spot in the first round. What NFL clubs have to debate now is whether Polley returns to his old form after additional time to heal.
Nov. 22
Flashes his big-time athleticism every game, finishing with five tackles and one stop behind the line of scrimmage against Florida.
Nov. 15
Totaled four stops and also broke up a pass against out-manned Wake Forest last week.
Nov. 8
Finished with five tackles and also broke up a pass in the Seminoles' 54-7 rout of Clemson last week.
Nov. 1
Appears to be primed for an All-American finish to the 2000 season. After posting two tackles against N.C. State, he should be back in the spotlight this week when the Seminoles square off against Clemson.
Oct. 26
Has come through with some impact play in recent weeks. Against Virginia, Polley had a sack and also recovered a fumble.
