Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Michigan OT MAURICE WILLIAMS since the beginning of the college-football season.
Feb. 7
Versatile athlete whose best football is ahead. In fact, Williams has just touched the surface of his future pro potential along the offensive line. Keep in mind, he played just four years at Michigan, never redshirting. As a true freshman, he worked at DE, before shifting permanently to the offensive line the following year. Before finding a home at RT, Williams earned some starting experience at RG as well.
Jan. 4
Has just touched the surface of his future pro potential as a RT. Williams never redshirted at Michigan, while also beginning his college career as a DE.
Dec. 31
Despite the fact that he never redshirted at Michigan and actually saw playing time in five games at DE as a true freshman in '97, Williams established himself as a quality bookend RT late in his college career in Ann Arbor. He also has starting experience inside at RG as well. Currently, the athletic 6-foot-5, 300-pounder has just touched the surface of his future pro potential.
Dec. 7
Former DE who developed into a solid RT with the Wolverines and has yet to play his best football. I look at that as a positive, but some may question whether he'll be prepared to push for a starting job as a first-year performer in the NFL. Keep in mind, Williams is a true fourth-year senior who never redshirted.
Nov. 22
Another solid effort against Ohio State. The former DE has improved steadily throughout the latter stages of his college career, with his best football yet to played. Williams' upside potential at RT is what makes him so intriguing.
Nov. 15
Tends to be overshadowed some by Steve Hutchinson and Jeff Backus, but in three to four years, Williams could end up ranking right up there with the top-flight RTs in the NFL. Remember, he never redshirted with the Wolverines and saw action in five games at DE as a true freshman in 1997 before switching to the offensive line during spring practice the following year.
Nov. 8
Key performer on a veteran Wolverine offensive line that made it possible for Drew Henson, Anthony Thomas, David Terrell and company to account for 535 yards of total offense last week against Northwestern.
Nov. 1
After an off week, Williams and the Wolverines will be looking to remain in the Rose Bowl hunt with a victory on the road at Northwestern.
Oct. 26
Although still developing as a RT from a technique standpoint, his future upside potential continues to be very intriguing.
