Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Arizona State DB ADAM ARCHULETA since the beginning of the college-football season.
Jan. 4
Always around the ball as well as being an intimidator with his bone-crunching hits.
Dec. 31
Some have compared Archuleta to former Sun Devil Pat Tillman. But when you have him graded as a first rounder, like I do, you had better believe strongly that he will be more like another former Sun Devil, Darren Woodson. While he hasn't been a true strong safety in ASU's scheme, he has all the physical skills as well as the tenacity and instincts to make a smooth transition. Keep in mind, the 6-foot, 208-pounder will clock in the 4.43 range and can do 30 bench press reps.
Dec. 7
One of the most impressive performers on defense in the entire country this season. At the pro level, he'll have to shift from a rover/LB spot to a standard strong safety position. And is he the next Darren Woodson or Pat Tillman? Both are also former Sun Devils who operated in a similar manner at ASU.
Nov. 29
His play throughout the regular season was definitely All-American level. In the Sun Devils' 30-17 victory against Arizona, the rugged 6-foot, 208-pounder finished with six tackles.
Nov. 15
Hopes to go on to the NFL and have a career similar to that of former Sun Devil rover Darren Woodson. Against Stanford, Archuleta posted 10 tackles, including two stops behind the line.
Nov. 8
An energetic, relentless warrior who continues to be a tackling machine for the Sun Devils. In ASU's overtime loss to USC, Archuleta recorded 16 tackles, recovered a fumble and broke up a pass.
Nov. 1
Superior play from Archuleta continued against Oregon when he recorded 15 tackles (10 solos), one sack, and one pass deflection. He also caused two fumbles, one of which was recovered for a touchdown by the Sun Devils.
Oct. 26
His production this season has been remarkable. Against Washington State last week, the super-intense Archuleta finished with 12 tackles (two for loss), forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, broke up a pass and came away with an interception in the end zone to thwart the Cougars' first scoring opportunity in overtime. Arizona State answered with a FG to pull out the 23-20 victory.
