Here's a rundown of what I've had to say about Clemson WR ROD GARDNER since the beginning of the college-football season.
March 21
One of the fastest risers in recent weeks, enjoying an excellent individual workout that saw Gardner run under 4.5. He's big, has Cris Carter-type natural pass-receiving skills, and his performances in the ACC over the last two years were outstanding.

Clemson's Rod Gardner breaks away for a score. |
Feb. 28
The run on WRs figures to be fast and furious around the midway portion of round one. Gardner has scheduled his individual workout for March 15 at Clemson.
Feb. 7
Has the size, body control and natural pass-receiving skills to cause all kinds of problems for smaller cover men at the pro level. In jump-ball situations, Gardner rarely loses a battle.
Jan. 12
Uncoverable at times, especially on deep routes. He was the model of consistency as the Tigers' big-play option. He has great size, soft hands and tremendous body control to adjust to the poorly thrown ball.
Jan. 4
Size, sure hands and the ability to adjust to the poorly thrown ball combine to make Gardner a player on the rise.
Dec. 31
Depending upon how many underclassmen at the WR position decide to enter the draft, the middle portion of round one is right about where the run on senior wideouts could begin. Gardner has imposing size (6-foot-2, 213) along with superior hand-eye coordination which allows him to routinely come down with the brilliant catch on both intermediate and deep routes. He also understands how to position his frame when working against corners.
Dec. 7
Gardner can prove to be virtually impossible to handle for smaller cover men in one-on-one situations. He shows outstanding hand-eye coordination, body control and natural pass-receiving skills. The key for Gardner during workouts will be proving that he the necessary straight-line speed to warrant consideration in the mid-late first-round area.
Nov. 22
His impressive performances in big games continued last week. Against South Carolina, Gardner hauled in four receptions for 107 yards. Included was his huge 50-yard grab of a Woody Dantzler pass that set up the Tigers' game-winning field goal in the waning seconds. For the regular season, Gardner finished with 51 catches for an 18.7-yard average and six TDs. Career-wise at Clemson, he ended up second behind former Tiger Terry Smith in receptions and third in receiving yardage behind Terry Smith and Perry Tuttle.
Nov. 8
Big, athletic wideout, able to adjust to the poorly thrown ball as well as any WR in the country. Against Florida State, Gardner hauled in three receptions for 75 yards and also had an 85-yard TD called back because of a penalty.
Nov. 1
Hauled in three receptions for 27 yards and one TD against Georgia Tech, as the Tiger offense (after the injury to Woody Dantzler) was directed by redshirt freshman Willie Simmons during the second half.
Oct. 26
For the first time in eight years, the Tigers rallied from 17 points down to win a game. Even more impressive was the fact that they accomplished such a feat on the road at Chapel Hill. Redshirt freshman QB Willie Simmons was brilliant after stepping in for an injured Woody Dantzler, as was Gardner, who hauled in seven receptions for 182 yards and three TDs. Over the last three games against N.C. State, Maryland and North Carolina, he's totaled 22 catches for 467 yards.
