Headset Hearsay: The (very) latest
ESPN The Magazine

Georgia Tech OC Ralph Friedgen, just announced as the new Maryland head coach, is likely to bring onetime Maryland assistant Greg Williams on board as a defensive coordinator. Williams is currently at Georgia.

Word out of the south is that top recruiter David Kelly -- now at Georgia Tech -- might be headed home to Clemson. One of Kelly's prime targets once he settles in could be Roscoe Crosby, a smooth 6-3 wideout who would fit nicely into the Tigers' offense.

TCU is trying to hang onto Dennis Franchione, and is stretching its athletic budget as tightly as possible to keep him. Remember, Arizona State is one of four schools his contract allows him to leave for without a punishing buyout. (The others are Texas, A&M and Notre Dame.) But there could be one slight glitch holding things up: former Sun Devil coach Frank Kush -- still an ASU power broker -- would rather have Danny White running the show.

Silliest Rumor of the Moment: Ty Willingham to Maryland. Sure he's on their "list." -- just like Steve Spurrier and Bill Walsh. Maybe the NFL could lure Willingham away, but why would one of the most highly regarded coaching prospects in all of football go to a school that has had two decent years in the last two decades?

Syracuse QB coach Jim Hofher will be named Buffalo's head coach later this week. (Apparently they're not basing this decision on his work with Troy Nunes.)
