Michigan basketball star arrested

Benton Harbor High (Mich.) star basketball player Robert Whaley was arrested and charged with rape stemming from an alleged sexual attack on a 13-year-old girl on Thanksgiving Day.

The 18-year-old Whaley, a 6-foot-10 center for Benton Harbor, was released after posting bond last Wednesday. He was held out of Friday's win over Battle Creek High by Benton Harbor School District administrators. The team improved to 9-0 with the win.

According to police, Whaley allegedly had non-consensual sexual intercourse with the girl at his mobile home. He is charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual assault.

Whaley is averaging 18.1 points and eight rebounds per contest and has already committed to play at the University of Missouri next season.

In a statement released on Friday, Missouri coach Quin Snyder said the school wouldn't comment specifically until it received more information.

"We can't really make any further comments until then," said Snyder.
