MINNEAPOLIS -- A former partner of a Minneapolis law firm is expected to be picked as the interim men's athletic director at Minnesota.
Tom Moe, formerly of Dorsey & Whitney, would replace Mark Dienhart, effective Monday, the Star Tribune reported Thursday. University president Mark Yudof met with several Gophers coaches Wednesday and told them Moe was his top choice for the job. Moe, now a consultant for Dorsey & Whitney, said he would meet Thursday morning with university officials. "It's like anything else, I'd do anything to help," he said. "If they think I could help out, I care a lot about the university." A university report announced Nov. 19 outlined widespread academic misconduct in the men's basketball program. The university banned itself from postseason play this year and expects additional penalties after the NCAA completes its investigation. Dienhart and McKinley Boston, vice president for student development and athletics, resigned after being told their contracts would not be renewed after June 30. Yudof also announced that the contracts of Jeff Schemmel, senior associate men's athletic director, and Chris Schoemann, director of athletic compliance, would not be renewed.
Moe, 61, played football and baseball for Minnesota. He was
chosen as the football team's most valuable player as an end in 1959. | ALSO SEE Report: Mason tells recruits he's staying at Minnesota
