Of the players who are entering the NBA draft early, many have decided not to sign with an agent, a move that allows the athletes to pull out of the draft and return to college.

Alabama's Gerald Wallace is among the players who declared but did not sign with an agent. He is a high-riser, an exciting player who showed flashes of brilliance early in his freshman season. The diaper dandy still has to learn what a good shot is. In fact, Wallace has a lot to learn.

He has to work on developing touch on his shot; without learning that skill, Wallace may not be an effective NBA player. He really struggled shooting in SEC play.

There is no doubt that he has lots of potential and great athletic skills. Nobody can question whether Wallace can run and jump. The bottom line is this: He is not ready to compete on the next level.

He did not dominate in college, so why would anyone think he could do it in the pros? With more seasoning at Alabama, he has a better shot of reaching his potential.

Look at what coach Mark Gottfried has coming back to the Crimson Tide lineup. If Wallace decides to return, the Tide will be a top-20 squad. Alabama has a lot of talent, including Rod Grizzard, another player who will get better and better with more experience and knowledge of the game.

If Wallace returns and works hard, there is no doubt he would elevate his game and improve. He just isn't ready for the NBA yet.
