Wednesday, November 19, 2003 ESPN Classic World Series ![]() On Saturday Oct. 21 and Sunday Oct. 22, ESPN Classic celebrates the World Series with two days of some of the best Series games and a live special. ESPN Classic's "Road Show" will make its second stop of the year in New York for Game 1 of the 2000 World Series. From 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, we present a live event from Yankee Stadium hosted by ESPN's Rich Eisen. Tim Kurjian will join Eisen and former major leaguers Keith Hernandez, Bret Saberhagen, Graig Nettles, Tug McGraw, Tim Raines and Rusty Staub to discuss classic World Series games.

Dodgers ace Sandy Koufax strikes out 10 and allows just three hits in his second shutout of the series against the Twins and their quartet of home run hitters - Harmon Killebrew, Zoilo Versalles, Tony Oliva and Bob Allison.
Frank Viola allows six hits in eight innings and Greg Gagne's sixth-inning infield single gives Minnesota the lead as the Twins beat the Cardinals 4-2 to become the first World Series champion to win all four home games.
The Toronto Blue Jays win their second straight World Series, 8-6, on a three-run homer by Joe Carter in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Mitch Williams.
Host Rich Eisen will be joined by Tim Kurkjian and MLB players Keith Hernandez, Bret Saberhagen, Graig Nettles, Tug McGraw, Tim Raines and Rusty Staub as they look back at some of the most memorable Fall Classics.
Sunday, Oct. 22 - ESPN Classic World Series (con't)
The Cardinals Bob Gibson returns from the broken leg that kept him out most of the '67 season to lead Lou Brock, Roger Maris and the rest of the Cardinals against Carl Yastrzemski's gritty Boston Red Sox club.
Twins center fielder Kirby Puckett puts on one of the greatest one-man displays in Series history, capped off with his game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th. He also triples, singles and has a sacrifice fly to finish with three RBI in the 4-3 Twins victory.
Roberto Clemente homers and Steve Blass pitches a complete game four-hitter as the Pirates win 2-1 for their first World Series title since 1960.
The Indians are two outs away from their first World Series victory since 1948, but the Marlins rally to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth on Craig Counsell's sacrifice fly, and win 3-2 in the eleventh on Edgar Renteria's two-out RBI single. ![]() ![]() |
