Chargers interim defensive coordinator Jim Vechiarella's sudden resignation after the team blew a 10-point lead in New England last week has a lot of roots.
Vechiarella was also the team's linebackers coach, and sources say he did not take kindly to the expectations of Chargers general manager John Butler that a couple of Butler's ex-Bills, Sam Rogers and John Holecek, would be on the field more against a familiar AFC East rival in the Patriots.
Rogers was a big-ticket free agent who has been backing up Gerald Dixon. Holecek has been playing behind Orlando Ruff. Rogers and Holecek likely will see more playing time -- the new San Diego linebackers coach is Dick Roach, who was an assistant for several years in Buffalo.
