Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has just entered the danger zone of the NFL. With the ouster of personnel boss Tom Modrak now official, Reid will take on the additional role of the football boss in the front office and on the playing field.

He'll make more money, probably around $2.5 million per year, but he'll also have a harsh Philadelphia market ready to pounce if history repeats itself. The history? Ray Rhodes had two promising first years as the last Eagles' coach before crashing and burning when he was given more control by owner Jeffrey Lurie.

Chandler's a changed man
Even before Michael Vick was a reality, Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves convinced 35-year-old quarterback Chris Chandler to rededicate himself for his own physical good and to protect his reputation with his teammates by sweating it out in the weight room this offseason.

Chandler even went the extra mile last week by restructuring his contract to clear more than $2 million in salary cap space to make room for Vick's pending contract.

Dwight's not right
The Chargers insisted on Falcons return ace Tim Dwight in the draft-day deal that sent Vick to Atlanta. But Dwight could not participate in the team's mini-camp over the weekend because he surprisingly needed surgery to fix a ruptured bursa in his knee.

San Diego is not crying foul because Dwight revealed that the injury was sustained in his offseason track-and-field endeavors. He should be able to get on the playing field next month.

Too good for his own good?
Super Bowl-winning quarterback Trent Dilfer may have to wonder whether being a good guy is really worth it. Dilfer has such an infectious personality that Redskins coach Marty Schottenheimer has had to wrestle with whether he's the right mix with Jeff George penciled in as the starter.

George is so aloof that Schottenheimer is well aware the free agent Dilfer could win over the locker room in no time if safeguards aren't in place.
