Woman claims assault, says Tyson should apologize

Associated Press

HONOLULU -- The woman who filed an assault complaint against Mike Tyson said Tuesday she would be satisfied with an apology from the former heavyweight champion.

Chereese Mead, 38, told Honolulu television station KHON that Tyson struck her with the back of his hand when she approached him at Aloha Stadium to give him a kiss.

"I said I don't want an autograph, I just want a kiss," she said.

An assault was reported several hours after the game was completed. Responding officers reported not seeing any visible injuries on the woman, police said.

Police said Monday they are investigating the claim.

A misdemeanor third-degree assault case was opened, but none of the woman's claims have been substantiated, said a police spokeswoman.

Mead said she had three beers before she met Tyson, but was not drunk.

"I think he should make an apology, most definitely," she said.

Mead said she has contacted an attorney.
