ENNIS, Texas -- John Force tied Pro Stock great Bob
Glidden's career record for NHRA national event victories Sunday,
winning the Castrol Nationals for the Funny Car star's 85th victory.
Force, of Yorba Linda, Calif., powered his Ford Mustang to a
quarter-mile run of 4.919 seconds at a top speed of 313.26 mph to
beat teammate Tony Pedregon. Pedregon lost traction at the start
and slowed to a pass of 9.747 seconds at 84.38 mph.
Force, who has won three straight events, moved into the season
points lead, 33 ahead of Jerry Toliver.
Gary Scelzi, V. Gaines and Matt Hines also won their divisions
in the $1.9 million competition at the Texas Motorplex.
Scelzi raced to his third Top Fuel victory of the year, beating
Larry Dixon with a run of 4.614 seconds at 316.67 mph.
Gaines topped the Pro Stock division for his first NHRA national
event victory. He beat Warren Johnson with a run of 7.041 seconds
at 196.93 mph.
Hines won the Pro Stock Motorcycle competition with a run of
7.289 seconds at 184.57 mph. | |
