WEST ALLIS, Wis. -- Points leader Jeff Green won the pole Saturday in record time for the Busch Series Sears DieHard 250 at The Milwaukee Mile.

Green, who enters the race with a 273-point advantage over Todd Bodine, set a qualifying record of 121.572 mph at the one-mile facility for his fifth pole of the season.

He covered the track in 29.612 seconds, topping the year-old mark of 121.421 mph set by last year's winner, Casey Atwood. Green finished second to Atwood in 1999.

Atwood, who recorded his first career victory and became the youngest to win a series race at 18 here last season, qualified 15th.

A three-time winner on the circuit, Green was followed by Jeff Purvis in the only Pontiac Grand Prix among the top 24. Hank Parker Jr., Bodine and Kevin Grubb were next, giving Chevrolet four of the top five spots.

Chevrolet also swept the next five positions, by Jimmie Johnson, Ron Hornaday, Bobby Hamilton Jr., Derrick Gilchrist and David Green.

Chevrolet has been the dominant manufacturer in the series this year with nine wins in the past 10 events and 11 overall in 17 races. Ford has six victories, while Pontiac is winless.

The race consists of 250 laps and will be televised live at 2 p.m ET on CBS. Drivers will compete for a total purse exceeding $755,000.
