Harvey fired; Dailey takes over 6-16 squad

Associated Press

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Silver Stars fired coach Candi Harvey on Saturday, a day after the team lost their sixth straight game and fell to 6-16.

Harvey's replacement will be assistant Shelly Dailey, a head coach at TCU for three seasons and a former University of Texas player, the Silver Stars announced.

The Silver Stars have lost nine of their last 10, including a 27-point loss at Minnesota on Friday. San Antonio is in sixth place among seven Western Conference teams, with only the top four advancing to the playoffs.

Harvey, 40-33 in the WNBA, was named the franchise's head coach on July 6, 2001, following the firing of Fred Williams. She led the then-Utah Starzz to their first playoff berth that season and then to the Western Conference finals last year. The franchise relocated to San Antonio from Utah before this season.

Harvey was also a head coach at Texas A&M from 1994-98.

She's the second WNBA coach to be fired this season, joining Maura McHugh, who was fired by the Sacramento Monarchs on July 9.
