Sparks selected LaRue with 27th overall pick

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Sparks suspended top draft choice Schuye LaRue after she left the team's training camp Tuesday at Loyola Marymount.

She left for unspecified "personal reasons,'' according to a statement issued by the WNBA team.

LaRue reported to camp Sunday, underwent a physical examination Monday, then practiced. But she returned Tuesday to her home in the Washington, D.C. area, a team spokeswoman said.

The Sparks drafted the 6-foot-3 forward in the second round. LaRue was the 27th overall selection. She averaged 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in two seasons with Virginia before leaving school in 2001 to play professionally in Europe. LaRue was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in her final college season.
