Bird joined by Milton, Dixon on world team

Associated Press

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Guard Sue Bird was one of three WNBA players added Thursday to the U.S. team for the upcoming women's world championships.

Los Angeles Sparks teammates DeLisha Milton and Tamecka Dixon also join the roster for the championships, which will be held Sept. 14-25 in China. Bird, who played for national champion Connecticut last season, is now with the Seattle Storm.

They join eight previously selected WNBA players -- Tamika Catchings (Indiana), Shannon Johnson (Orlando), Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles), Katie Smith (Minnesota), Dawn Staley (Charlotte), Sheryl Swoopes (Houston), Tina Thompson (Houston) and Natalie Williams (Utah).

One more player will be added later.
