INDIANAPOLIS -- A U.S. Airways flight carrying the WNBA's
Washington Mystics returned to Indianapolis after a glue-like
substance dripped onto a passenger Friday.
Flight 622 bound for Washington with 99 passengers, turned
around and landed safely at Indianapolis International Airport. The
passengers were evacuated at the end of the runway then shuttled
back to the terminal.
The leaking substance, which had a strong chemical smell, was
not immediately identified.
"We're investigating, but there was a Super Glue-type substance
that dripped out of an overhead compartment and dripped onto one
passenger's leg and hands," said airport spokesman Dennis
Rosebrough. "That is where the odor came from."
He said the plane returned to Indianapolis as a precautionary
measure.
It was initially believed that someone had a bottle of glue in
the overhead compartment and it had burst, but that wasn't the
case.
Rosebrough said the one passenger who came in contact with the
substance was fine, but was taken to a nearby hospital as a
precaution.
The passengers were rebooked on later flights.

75-71 Thursday night. | |
