WIMBLEDON, England -- Jelena Dokic, who reached the semifinals on Tuesday, has fired Tony Roche as her coach and turned over the role to her father, Damir.
The move is bound to be controversial. Damir Dokic was detained last week at Wimbledon after he smashed a reporter's cellular phone. No charges were filed, but it's not the first time he has been in trouble.
A year ago the Yugoslav-born Dokic was ejected from a tournament in England for calling officials "Nazis," then sat down in the street outside the club and blocked traffic.
Still, his daughter has consistently defended him and wants him as her sole coach. She reached the semifinals Tuesday, beating Spain's Magui Serna 6-3, 6-2.
"When you're close with somebody that knows your game and works with you, it's always hard to get somebody else in there," she said.
Dokic said she broke off with Roche the week before Wimbledon began. For his part, Roche took it in stride. "I just came on board to help her out, and so that's fine," Roche said. "They're entitled to do whatever they want to do."
Roche is the second coach Dokic has fired. Her previous coach was Australia's Fed Cup captain Lesley Bowrey.
Dokic, who reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals a year ago, admitted her close relationship with her problematic father makes it difficult to work with anyone else.
"I've got nothing against him (Roche)," she said. "I've had good results since I've been working with him, but I feel comfortable hitting with people that I want to hit with and doing my own thing.
"My dad and I thought it was something that we should try, have a go at, just try a few things that we thought we might try."
Wade: Wimbledon food bad for players' digestion
"Jane Henman (mother of British player, Tim) and I talked about it last year and determined to do something. Now a year's gone by and we've both been too busy. There are peppers everywhere. It just can't be good for the players' digestion."
As an aside, the food in the players' cafeteria isn't very different from what's served to fans. The fans, however, have to pay to eat poorly.
Streaking headlines poke fun at Kournikova
"Quick Kourni ... Kova your eyes." said The Mirror.
"No Peeping, Anna," said The Daily Mail.
"Anna can't look," said the Sun.
Nice aces, mate In four matches, he has 132, followed by American Jan-Michael Gambill (87), Thomas Enqvist of Sweden (74), Marc Rosset of Switzerland (72) and Wayne Ferreira of South Africa (69). Six-time champion Pete Sampras has only 55 aces through four rounds.
Divine intervention for Sampras?
"It's because when Sampras came out of his mother's womb," Gimelstob said, "God spent a little extra time on his right shoulder."
