In 1962, Laver defeated Roy Emerson in the Australian and French finals, Marty Mulligan at
Wimbledon and Emerson again in the U.S. Open to complete his Grand Slam.
In 1969, Laver defeated Andres Gimeno in the Australian final, Ken Rosewall in the French, John
Newcombe at Wimbledon and Tony Roche in the U.S. Open to complete his Grand Slam.
In 1953, Connolly defeated Julia Sampson in the Australian final and Doris Hart in the French,
Wimbledon and U.S. Open finals to complete her Grand Slam.
In 1970, Smith defeated Kerry Melville in the Australian final, Helga Niessen in the French, Billie Jean
King at Wimbledon and Rosie Casals at the U.S. Open to complete her Grand Slam.
In 1988, Steffi Graf defeated Chris Evert in the Australian final, Natalia Zvereva in the French,
Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon and Gabriela Sabatini at the U.S. Open to complete her Grand
Slam. Graf also defeated Gabriela Sabatini to win the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and complete the "golden" slam.
