NEW YORK -- It was just about as close as it could get. But unfortunately for Richard Krajicek, somebody had to lose. Yevgeny Kafelnikov pulled off a 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 1-6, 7-5 (7-5) quarterfinal victory in the U.S. Open on Wednesday, beating Krajicek, who set an Open era record with 48 aces.
Agassi got off to a slow start against Escude but then picked up speed and never looked back. Krajicek, seeded No. 12, broke Goran Ivanisevic's record of 46 aces, also set in a losing effort, against Magnus Norman at Wimbledon in 1997. | ALSO SEE Davenport, Serena happy to reach Open semifinals
