| Saturday, November 16 Ferrero could upset Hewitt By Patrick McEnroe Special to ESPN.com |

First of all, two great semifinal matches on Saturday. I think the fact that Juan Carlos Ferrero had slightly fresher legs was the difference in his 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4 victory against Carlos Moya.
I said that the Roger Federer-Lleyton Hewitt match had the makings of being a classic, and that's exactly what it turned out to be. Hewitt's will to win and competitiveness proved to be the difference in the end. But Federer showed glimpses of absolute genius as he displayed the full arsenal of his talents. I think that these two guys will be playing in some major finals for the next few years to come. Now let's get to Sunday's final (2 a.m. ET, ESPN2). These two last met at last year's Masters Cup in Sydney, Australia, in the semifinals, which Hewitt won pretty easily. I expect Sunday's final to be a lot tougher. I think that the slower court slightly helps Ferrero because it gives him time to set up his lethal groundstrokes. I also think that Hewitt will be a little more fatigued after his three-hour struggle with Federer. Saying all that, it's hard for me to bet against Hewitt because he seems to figure out a way to win matches like this. But I'm going to anyway. I'm going with the underdog again and say Ferrero in five sets. Fererro's always been a guy who we thought could win a big tournament on a hard court, and he's yet to do it. I think now his time has come. So enjoy the final and see you all in Australia. Enjoy the offseason. |
