MADRID, Spain -- Former No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt withdrew from next week's Madrid Masters to concentrate on Australia's Davis Cup final against Spain. "I've got a special feeling for the Davis Cup," Hewitt said, the tournament's Web site reported Thursday. "It's not every day that you get to play the final in front of your home crowd and I want to make sure I'm ready for it." The 2001 U.S. Open and 2002 Wimbledon champion won the Madrid Masters last year. Australia and Spain will play the Davis Cup final on grass in Melbourne on Nov. 28-30. Two other players pulled out: French Open semifinalist Guillermo Coria (he's had a leg injury), and U.S. Open semifinalist David Nalbandian (hurt wrist). |
