NEWPORT, R.I. -- Fourth-seeded Robby Ginepri beat eighth-seeded Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1 at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Sunday to win his first ATP title.

"It's an amazing feeling to win today,'' the 20-year-old Ginepri said. "Fortunately it went my way.''

After dropping his first set of the week in the tiebreaker, Ginepri took charge in the final set with breaks in the fourth and sixth games.

Ginepri went up 40-love in the final game. He lost one point and then wrapped it up when Melzer hit a backhand volley wide.

"Being up 5-1, I didn't think I was going to lose the match,'' Ginepri said. "The first title, trying to serve it out, there's not a lot of guys that wouldn't be nervous.''

That started a long day of tennis for Melzer.

Melzer teamed with Julian Knowle to beat Graydon Oliver and Brian Vahaly in the doubles semifinals, 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-5 in a match that started about 45 minutes after his loss in singles.

After a 15-minute break, Melzer and Knowle took on Jordan Kerr and David MacPherson in the doubles final. Melzer came up short again as he Knowle were beaten 7-6 (4), 6-3.

The last set of the match, that ended at 8:43 p.m., was moved to an indoor hard surface when it got too dark outside. Melzer's singles' match started at 2:08.
