MADRID, Spain -- Top-seeded Chanda Rubin beat Paola Suarez 6-2, 6-4 Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Spanish Open. Rubin next faces Iroda Tulyaganova, who defeated Cara Black of Zimbabwe 7-5, 6-4. In other matches, Maria Antonia Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain beat Switzerland's Emmanuelle Gagliardi 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and Barbara Schett of Austria beat Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina 6-2, 6-3. |
