INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Top-seeded Kim Clijsters took just 51 minutes to beat Chanda Rubin 6-2, 6-3 and advance to the semifinals at the Pacific Life Open on Thursday. Clijsters overwhelmed Rubin from the ground, powering her forehand to the corners, serving efficiently and playing more consistent tennis than she did earlier in the tournament. "I was really happy with the way I served," said Belgian Clijsters, who now meets Amanda Coetzer or Conchita Martinez. "That was the key because she returns really aggressively and likes to dominate points quickly. It was also important to move her from side to side to open up the court." |
