SYDNEY, Australia -- Australians Scott Draper, Richard Fromberg and Todd Reid were selected Thursday as wild-card entries for the Australian Open, which starts Jan. 14 in Melbourne. Fromberg has been a prominent figure in Australian tennis since turning professional in 1988 and has finished in the world's top 100 for 11 consecutive years. Reid is Australia's No. 1 junior player and reached the Wimbledon junior quarterfinals last year. Draper, a 27-year-old from Brisbane, enjoyed the best season of his career in 1998, when he won Queen's in England and was a finalist at Washington. He reached a career-high singles ranking of 42 in 1999. | ||
