| WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Jared Palmer and Alex O'Brien were
picked Tuesday as the doubles team for the United States' Davis Cup
quarterfinal against the Czech Republic.
Palmer and O'Brien will join Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, who
were selected as the singles players last month by captain John
McEnroe. The United States will play the Czechs in Inglewood,
Calif., on April 7-9.
"Jared and Alex have demonstrated that they are the top
American doubles team and deserve to represent the Unites States,"
McEnroe said. "They are also fresh off a recent convincing win at
the Australian Open over Jiri Novak and David Riki, who we are
expecting to play doubles for the Czechs."
Palmer and O'Brien, teammates at Stanford, reached the
semifinals of the Australian Open in January after beating Riki and
Novak 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. | |
