PARIS -- The top three players -- Jennifer Capriati, Venus and Serena Williams -- really haven't been scared too much so far in the tournament. Everybody thought there would be at least one Belgian in the finals. The biggest surprise has been that that neither Kim Clijsters nor Justine Henin played well here.

	Shriver Former WTA Tour pro Pam Shriver is providing ESPN.com with in-depth analysis throughout the French Open. Shriver, a tennis analyst for ESPN, was ranked as high as No. 3 in singles play. She won 21 singles and 112 doubles titles, including 22 Grand Slams.

You always have some outsiders in the quarterfinals, but it's unusual this time that these outsiders, Clarisa Fernandez and Paola Suarez, are both from Argentina and are playing each other. Also unseeded, 2000 French Open champion Mary Pierce, is a good story to watch.

The women's draw has held up, though. Most people probably would have picked one of the Wiliams sisters or Capriati to win, so it's likely that your favorite is still in.

Jennifer Capriati (1), United States vs. Jelena Dokic (7), Yugoslavia
Dokic has never beaten Capriati. They played three times last year and their closest match was the one on a clay court in Berlin. Dokic was playing better last year in the clay season. She won the Italian Open and almost beat Capriati in Berlin. This year, she's still waiting to play her best tennis. Give Capriati the edge knowing that Dokic is capable.

Serena Williams (3), United States vs. Mary Pierce, France
This is a fun matchup. One of the favorites coming in, Serena, against the winner two years ago who has hardly won a match in two years because of injuries. Serena should win this one. Pierce is one of those players who if she gets on a roll, she's dangerous. But Serena will be too quick and get too many balls back. Pierce's great comeback will come to an end Tuesday.

Monica Seles (6), United States vs. Venus Williams (2), United States
The heavyweight match of the quarterfinals. Never having beaten Venus before, Monica turned things around at this year's Australian Open. Seles has to have more belief in herself having beaten Venus in Melbourne. In that match, Seles was playing close to her best modern-day tennis, and Venus was a notch below playing well. For Seles to win here a similar thing has to happen. She can only win if Venus is off and Seles is on all cylinders.

Paola Suarez, Argentina vs. Clarisa Fernandez, Argentina
These are the surprise quarterfinalists. This pair played two weeks ago in Madrid and Suarez won in two tight sets. This is a mystery match because we don't know how they're going to do in the quarterfinals of a major because neither have been this far before. Perhaps, Suarez with all her doubles experience has played in enough big matches to give her the edge in what's basically a toss-up. If you were asking Mary Joe Fernandez, she would definitely pick Clarisa Fernandez again. But Paula Suarez has my intials, so I'm going with P.S.
