PARIS -- Jennifer Capriati's serve was far from championship caliber. Still, she moved on to the third round of the French Open.

And Serena Williams, decked out again in a bright yellow and green outfit, rolled to another win at Roland Garros.

``It was making me a little mad that I couldn't hold my serve. We were going back and forth in the first set,'' Capriati said after she lost her serve six times but still beat Amy Frazier 6-4, 6-3.

Frazier struggled even more than the top-seeded Capriati, losing her serve eight times and holding just once.

No. 3 Williams, again wearing yellow soccer socks up to her knees, needed just 62 minutes to beat Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar 6-2, 6-3.

No. 7 Jelena Dokic beat Conchita Martinez, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2; unseeded American Chanda Rubin upset No. 16 Barbara Schett, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5; and 2000 champion Mary Pierce eliminated No. 32 Cristina Torrens Valero 6-3, 6-1.

Among the other seeded winners Thursday were No. 14 Iroda Tulyaganova, who downed Christina Wheeler; and No. 20 Patty Schnyder, who beat Tathiana Garbin 6-3, 6-2.

After Capriati held in the opening game of the match, there were 11 straight service breaks. Frazier had a 3-2 lead in the second set before Capriati won the final four games, holding to clinch the match.

Frazier, ranked 61st, finished with 53 unforced errors and Capriati 39, while each player had seven double faults.
