MELBOURNE, Australia -- The seeded players are holding true with six seeded players in the quarterfinals. The other two, Carlos Moya, a finalist here in '97, and Todd Martin, another former finalist ('94), have experience. Also, there are four former Grand Slam winners in Patrick Rafter, Andre Agassi, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Moya. Some of the players, such as Rafter, Agassi and Kafelnikov are older, but there is also a younger group in Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov (5) vs. Arnaud Clement (15)
Once again, Kafelnikov is having a great Australian Open. He plays great tennis here. He hasn't played the best he can, but he's gotten through some tough streaky times. Clement is a dangerous player, so a Kafelnikov victory is by no means a given. Tuesday, Clement dominated Greg Rusedski, who can overpower a player with his serve. Clement is a baseliner, but he controlled Rusedski. At 5-foot-9, he is a battler, and he's shown in this event that he's not going to back down. This match is a toss up. Pick: Kafelnikov
Sebastien Grosjean (16) vs. Carlos Moya
Moya has lost only two sets so far, and those were in the third round. He's back to playing the tennis he was playing in '97 and '98. He's playing the kind of tennis that could put him back in the top 10. The next couple of matches will determine how close he is to pushing for a spot in the top five. Pick: Moya
Andre Agassi (6) vs. Todd Martin
Martin will go down to Agassi. A player has never beaten Sampas and Agassi in the same Grand Slam tournament. They are both playing good tennis, but they will be playing in the heat of the day, which favors Agassi. Agassi is so competitive and so tough in big moments like these so expect him to win. Pick: Agassi
Patrick Rafter (12) vs. Dominik Hrbaty (14)
As great as Hrbaty is playing -- he hasn't lost a set since first round -- the caliber of tennis Rafter is playing is even better, and it's hard to believe he'll be denied. After having played Rafter personally in the past and watching him dozens of times, the way he is playing right now will win him this event if he can continue at this level. Pick: Rafter
