Zepeda scores twice for Cruz Azul

LOS ANGELES -- Miguel Angel Zepeda scored twice as Mexico
City's Cruz Azul routed Toluca 5-2 in the second game of a Copa
Libertadores playoff doubleheader Wednesday night at the Coliseum.
Zepeda scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute with a
14-yard shot off a counterattack. Toluca defender Erik Espinoza's
own goal off Zepeda's shot in first-half stoppage time made it 2-0.
Zepeda gave Cruz Azul a 3-0 lead in the 49th minute on a soft
6-yard shot off goalkeeper Hernan Cristante. Edgar Gonzalez's
13-yard header two minutes later made it 3-1.
Cruz Azul made it 5-1 on Juan Carlos Cacho's 12-yard volley in
the 55th minute and Sebastian Abreu's 6-yard header in the 76th
minute. Abreu played for Uruguay in the 2002 World Cup.
Toluca's Israel Lopez ended the scoring in the 86th minute on a
30-yard free kick.
In the first game, Martin Garcia scored the winning goal in the
67th minute to give Mexico City's UNAM Pumas a 4-3 victory over
Pachuca.
The victories put UNAM Pumas and Cruz Azul into the final
four-team qualifying round for the Copa Libertadores, South
America's prestigious club tournament. The two clubs join
Venezuela's Estudiantes de Merida and Nacional Tachira.
Cruz Azul was the runner-up in the 2001 Copa Libertadores to
Argentine power Boca Juniors.
