EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Alex Comas scored twice and Adolfo
Valencia had a goal and assist Saturday to lead the New York-New
Jersey MetroStars to a team-record fifth straight victory, 4-2, over
the Miami Fusion.

The MetroStars, 7-0-2 in their last nine games, lead the Eastern
Division with 41 points (13-7-2). Miami, 0-3-1 in its last four,
fell to 7-11-5 and remained in third place with 26 points.
The MetroStars had the better chances in the first half. After
near-misses by Roy Meyers on a rebound in the 30th minute and
Petter Villegas from close range in the 38th minute, they
converted.
Meyers sent a pinpoint pass through the middle to Comas that
split the two Miami central defenders and sent Comas in alone at
the top of the box.
Fusion goalkeeper Nick Rinmando charged off his line. But Comas
pushed the ball wide to his left, went around Rimando and cut the
ball back into an empty net.
The MetroStars took command in the early moments of the second
half, scoring three goals within 10 minutes to open a 4-0 lead.
Adolfo Valencia made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 49th
minute after Tim Sahaydak pulled Villegas down in the box. Villegas
scored in the 54th minute when he knocked in a rebound of a shot by
Valencia. Comas made it 4-0 in the 59th minute when he ran onto a
long pass from Mark Chung and rolled a shot under Rimando.
Miami ended the shutout bid in the 60th minute when Jay Heaps
headed in a cross from Martin Machon. The Fusion added another goal
in the 89th minute by Roy Lassiter.
