FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- The Miami Fusion and Kansas City Wizards played to a 0-0 tie Saturday night in Major League Soccer, Miami's second scoreless tie in two weeks.
Miami, which has tied three of its first four matches, leads the
Eastern Conference with six points. Kansas City is 2-0-1 for seven
points, one behind first-place Los Angeles in the Western Division.
"The teams that play away are looking for the point," Miami coach Ivo Wortmann said. "Too much pressure is placed on the home team. You will see a lot of ties in the league this season."
Kansas City goalkeeper Tony Meola's diving deflection of Andy
Williams 20-yard shot at the 73rd minute kept the match scoreless.
The teams rarely attacked the goal area the rest of the way.
"We didn't come here for the point, we wanted three. But the way the game evolved, it was a fair result," Kansas City coach Bob Gansler.
Meola and Fusion goalkeeper Jeff Cassar each made three saves.
"It's tough to pick up goals when you have good goalkeepers
like Meola and Cassar, as well as good defenses," Gansler said.
Miami's best scoring opportunity in the first half was Henry
Gutierrez's shot from 10 yards, which Meola had little difficulty
stopping.
In the 41st minute, Kansas City's Miklos Molnar broke deep
inside the penalty area, but his header sailed over the Fusion
goal.
