Monday, June 25 On the road again ESPN.com RPM.ESPN.com takes a look at what went down in the racing world this past weekend. Biggest surprise: Max Papis winning from the pole in Portland. If Helio Castroneves can climb fences, Papis can surely start singing in the rain.
Biggest disappointment: Robby Gordon losing his win. Not that second place is anything to complain about. And maybe he got to go home with an "I've Been Harvicked at Sears Point" t-shirt. Ralf Schumacher being penalized, throwing a monkeywrench into the Two Schu hometown battle. Ralf coulda, maybe shoulda ... but Michael did. Also, Portland rain (is than a WNBA team?) messing with the CART world. Although there is something to be said for that time limit ... Gutsy move: Tony Stewart attacking and blowing by Robby Gordon while he tangled with Kevin Harvick at Sears Point. Well planned, perfectly timed. Boneheaded move: Harvick relentlessly harassing Gordon while trying to get back on the lead lap of the Dodge/Save Mart 350. Should Gordon have let him by? Maybe. And had there been no deal between the Gordon and Harvick teams, we'd give the No. 29 all the credit in the world. But there was a deal and Harvick basically ignored it, essentially costing Gordon a win. Sure, Harvick gained a ton of spots once he got back on the lead lap, but that happened when Gordon and Stewart let him beat them to the line when a yellow was thrown -- and that was the deal all along. Harvick has garnered well-deserved praise this season, but the honeymoon with Winston Cup might be coming to an end -- he needs to grow up, and Richard Childress should be helping him do that. Also, what was Dale Jarrett doing on the last few laps? The points leader (Jeff Gordon) basically has a top-five spot wrapped up, so the last thing the Cup points second-place car should be doing is getting involved in a spin and losing more ground in the points race, regardless of whether it was DJ's fault. The No. 88 was 19th with three laps to go. He finished 26th. Quote: "The whole race makes me furious. First I was the fastest at the start, then there was that pit lane disaster, without which I could have won the race." -- Ralf Schumacher on his fourth-place effort.
