Kelly to wave green flag
Associated Press

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will be the honorary starter for Sunday's Winston Cup race.

Kelly, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last week, will wave the green flag for the 43-car field in the Sirius Satellite Radio at The Glen event at Watkins Glen.

He will be representing Hunter's Hope Foundation, which he established in honor of his 5-year-old son.

Hunter Kelly has Krabbe's Disease, a crippling, enzyme disorder of the central and peripheral nervous system. Researchers have not discovered a cure for Krabbe's Disease or other leukodystrophies, and there are no successful treatments to reverse damage caused to brain and nerve tissue.

"I am incredibly honored to have been selected as the honorary starter,'' Kelly said. "I am a big fan of NASCAR racing, and I'm excited to play such an important role in the weekend. To be here on behalf of Hunter's Hope Foundation makes it even more special.''
